Family Business Now Offers Pet Memorials

For the past 65 years, the Stevens family of Mt. Airy has been known for two things: selling the finest in stone products for home and office; and, being loving advocates for pets of all kinds. Now, those two interests have converged, as the owners of Acme Stone Company are offering a complete line of pet memorials.

Founded in 1959, Acme Stone Company primarily sells and installs marble and granite countertops, but they have also created headstones and markers for loved ones of their customers. This year they expanded their product line to include personalized pet memorials.

“There are over 140 million dogs and cats living with families nationwide, and over a half million pet funerals held each year, so we realized that there was a growing need to help memorialize our four legged friends when they pass away,” said Cathy Stevens, owner of Acme Stone.

“It’s actually a natural progression of what we already do in creating individualized stone products,” said Christopher Stevens, general manager of Acme Stone. “Now we can create headstones and markers suitable for pet cemeteries or for burial on private property.”

These unique pet headstones can be made from marble and granite, with whatever custom design of your pet you want. “We want to ensure that your four-legged family is memorialized in the very best way,” said Christopher.

“We’re pretty flexible in selection of material, and we can design the memorial to fit any budget” said Cathy. “We also create markers that are appropriate for burial of an urn, whether placed in a graveyard, or in your back yard.”

“And, pet memorials are not big and bulky like headstones and monuments for humans,” said Christopher. “They are small enough that you can handle them yourself, and take them home with you.”

“When we’re helping folks design their kitchen counters, for example, we remind them that, unlike most materials, natural stone is there forever,” said Cathy. “It’s like that with pet memorials, too. Our four legged friends are always with us, and they deserve to be honored and remembered in the best possible way.”
