Mellie & Emilia: A style all their own!

Pop into the super stylish, yet delightfully understated, Mellie & Emilia boutique on a Saturday, and you’ll likely find one of its co-owners, Courtney Myers or Lauren Schneider, with a kid or two in tow.

Still relatively new business owners – the contemporary boutique opened in March 2017 – Courtney says it’s always a bit surreal to come into work and realize that she and Lauren (and their supremely supportive families!) are living their dream. What’s best about the fabric of their business is obvious.

“We’re all about family!” explains Courtney, who had previously worked with Lauren and become fast friends, as did their husbands and growing families of three children each. So it’s easy to see how a couple’s trip to Charleston ended with a mission of opening a brand new women’s boutique in Winston-Salem. Their Peters Creek Parkway location, which is a building they completely renovated with a chic black and gray exterior, and vintage reclaimed wood pieces inside, is warm and welcoming.

Whether you’re updating the stylish denim you slip on every day, or in search of a sleek (or sassy!) ensemble for a special date night, Mellie & Emilia proudly offers a number of contemporary lines not found elsewhere in the area. While their selections remain more upscale, the shop also features great pieces at a variety of price points, letting you build a wardrobe that’s full of options. With just as much appeal to a woman in her 20s as a woman in her 50s, Courtney says mother and daughter shopping sprees are quite common, and we certainly see why! The shop is as comfortable as they come, with a casually elegant showroom, perfect for sitting down with friends and putting together the perfect outfit for an upcoming social event, or a simply cuter-than-average work week.

Heading into fall, Lauren and Courtney invite you to get to know two newer lines for the season: Amour Vert (think flowing modal tops, ideal for transitioning to cooler weather) and 1 State (a slightly dressier line with clean silhouettes and a nod to architectural design in fabulous fabrics). Adding these new pieces to the classics you already have in your closet, along with the perfect, trending accessories and foundations will have you ready to embrace the start of fall with a new fashion attitude! A one-of-a-kind jewelry collection includes the beautiful earring designs of Clemmons resident Amy Chewning, and enhances Mellie & Emilia’s mission of supporting women entrepreneurs and keeping their overall focus local.

“As we continue to grow the business, we hope to feature even more local artisans,” says Courtney.

As part of their steadfast devotion to family, Lauren and Courtney hope they’ve created an atmosphere where husbands will also feel comfortable coming in to choose something for their wives. The two realize how lucky they are to be achieving their business dream while enjoying the journey with those they love most and are eager to give back. They encourage customers to join them, by donating a portion of each month’s sales to a different non-profit group in the area, such as recent benefactors the Diaper Bank of North Carolina, the Crossnore School and Children’s Home, SECU Family House, and the Mental Health Association of Forsyth County.

Get to know Mellie & Emilia by visiting them at 365 Peters Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem (just past BB&T Ballpark), 336-930-5303, following them on Facebook and Instagram, and keeping up with new arrivals, trunk shows, and special events at mellieemilia.com.
