“People always ask me how long it takes to do my hair. I don’t know, I’m never there.” ~Dolly Parton
Denise Grantham and Billie Jo Tutterow have 40+ years of experience in the wig retail industry between them. They are thrilled to work as business partners in re-launching the shop formerly known as Chic Wigs under their management. This mother/daughter team spent several months remodeling, selecting product lines, and preparing to reopen as Our Wig Boutique. The grand re-opening was on January 14, 2017, and they’ve been busy ever since. Stop by to visit and see what’s new!
“We have wigs from a variety of vendors,” explained Denise. “99% of our wigs are synthetic. The beauty of wearing a synthetic wig is that it’s already styled; human hair wigs require regular styling. The boutique offers wash, style, and set services for their wigs if needed.” Our Wig Boutique offers free consultations, no appointment necessary, and clients are encouraged to call or stop by if they have questions about their wig and its care.
Our Wig Boutique has 200+ wigs on display with 800+ in stock; their selection of turbans and headwear has also expanded. Styles range from timeless, traditional selections (some styles have been around for 20 years) to current trends such as rooted wigs (styles that have darker roots, more like dyed hair). “Wigmakers are creating wigs that mirror natural hair these days, so wigs generally don’t require thinning as they did in the past,” shared Denise. Denise specializes in that technique when needed.
Why wear a wig? There are any number of reasons that make wearing a wig practical such as medical (chemo treatments), hair loss conditions (alopecia areata), convenience factors, or just wanting to change one’s look without making it permanent. Denise and Billie Jo are aware that selecting a wig may not always be pleasant. As such, they created a space for clients to try wigs on in private. The room is mirrored with seating and a curtain to ensure privacy.
Having clients stop by to visit is a normal occurrence at Our Wig Boutique. One client friend stops by every week to “visit Truvi’s (from Steel Magnolias fame).” Kay stops by for a mental health break. Along with plenty of space for trying wigs, Denise and Billie Jo have created a seating area for just such visits.
In addition to wigs, turbans/headwear, and other wig-related accessories, Our Wig Boutique offers a selection of handmade jewelry, including earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and rings.
Establishing a support group for those dealing with hair loss is something that Billie Jo and Denise feel strongly about and have planned to do for the community. Future plans also include party options at the boutique; an evening playing with new colors and styles, plus refreshments! Have you secretly wondered what you’d look like as a blonde or redhead? Plan a party with friends and find out!
