Living Life ‘Accent Prone’
Just five short years ago, Justin and Cheri Lingafelt opened Accent Prone, carrying a little bit of every style. “We started with a simple concept,” said Cheri Lingafelt, owner and designer at Accent Prone. “Accent Prone is an all accent store, emphasizing the ‘wow’ factor from home to fashion accents. From your first visit, you know we don’t do boring. On the home accessories side, we buy full showrooms from High Point furniture market, as well as various markets across the US, hand picking select pieces, so our inventory consists of a lot of furniture market samples, which we sell at wholesale prices, passing along the savings to our customers. Because of the way we started, we’ve become known for selling furniture and accent pieces, but over the years, we have added a great selection of gifts, from jewelry, to clothing, to a wide range of fashion pieces. We get a full truckload every week, so our inventory is constantly changing and we have a little bit of every style from rustic, to modern, boho, transitional and everything in between. Accents are what we do, from home to fashion, and ‘accent prone’ is a lifestyle that we try to embody. We offer our signature complimentary gift wrap to make gift giving even easier.” With a convenient location, right in front of the Target shopping center, getting in and out of Accent Prone with the perfect gift, wrapped and ready to go is easy! A few of the jewelry lines carried at Accent Prone include Kendra Scott, Sheila Fajl, Waxing Poetic, Mantra Bands, The Giving Keys, Lenny and Eva, Gracewear, Lizzy James and finer sterling silver pieces. Because Cheri and Justin believe in keeping their inventory fresh and unique, they only have a few pieces of each, making your style unique to you. As the word has gotten out that Accent Prone has so much more in store than furniture, Cheri and Justin have seen customers come in for one thing and leave with another.
You Just Never Know What You’ll Find
“A lot of times people come in looking for a sideboard or a dresser and walk out with a pair of earrings or a fun fashion piece – or vice versa!” Cheri commented. “We have items to meet any price point a customer may have; you can always walk out with a little something fun to brighten your day. If people haven’t been to our store recently, we remodeled last summer and completely expanded our jewelry and boutique area. We also put in a nice, spacious dressing room to try on all the pretty things we have. For gift ideas, in addition to the jewelry and clothing pieces, we have great soy based handmade candles, serving ware, a collection of funny and inspirational, handmade barn wood quote signs, coffee mugs, accessories and accent pieces, and a wall we designated as the ‘man cave’ for special gifts for the guy in your life. We even have a small area of baby and children gifts, clothing pieces and books.” A very popular line that Accent Prone carries is ‘Magnolia Home’ by HGTV’s Joanna Gaines, for the fixer-upper fans, with pieces ranging from small, low price point items that are great for gifts, up to large pieces of furniture. Speaking of furniture, Accent Prone also has a 12,000 square foot warehouse many may not know about in downtown Kernersville.
“Our warehouse isn’t open regular business hours, but we open it for special events and huge blowout ‘warehouse sales,’” stated Justin. “At our warehouse we have larger pieces we don’t carry in our store, such as sofas, sectionals, upholstery, bedroom collections, dining tables, and much more, along with our selection of accent pieces, sideboards, artwork and lots of marked down clearance items. Customers follow us on social media or sign up for our email list to find out when the warehouse will be open.” Cheri’s dad, Terry Bull, helped the Lingafelts open Accent Prone, and is in charge of the warehouse. “Terry helped show us what it was to open and run a business and we are so thankful for his help in making our dream of starting Accent Prone come true,” continued Justin. “Now he runs the warehouse and people have come to know him as our ‘warehouse salesman,’ although he does so much more than that! On our warehouse sale days, he is front and center as we jam pack the place with new market samples and put crazy deals on them. We tell people to get there early that day, because our product gets gone quick.”
Shopping Local Makes a Difference in the Community
Whether you are shopping for gift ideas or for furniture and home accents, there’s no better time to shop than on Small Business Saturday, which Accent Prone puts their own twist on. “On Small Business Saturday, we donate 20% of our sales for the day to our local Salvation Army,” Cheri said. “We like giving to local causes, because we like our donations to be put right back into our local community, to help our fellow neighbors. In addition to 20% of the sales going to the Salvation Army, we also give customers 10% off their most expensive item and have giveaway items for the first 20 customers of the day. This year we are adding a scavenger hunt for items hidden around the store. And as you shop, you can enjoy refreshments and cupcakes!” The Lingafelts were born and raised in Kernersville, NC, so when it came to pursuing their dream and opening a business, they wanted it in their hometown.
“We feel so blessed to be able to contribute to the town in which we grew up and love being able to watch and help our community grow. Being a small business, we are able to create relationships with our customers and we now have so many new great friendships created through our store. Our team is absolutely amazing and they deserve so much credit for all their hard work and talent! Julie Short was our first hire and is our store manager/interior designer, and Crystal Martin is our social media/marketing guru. They’re incredible and they have helped us grow our business so much. We wouldn’t be able to do all we do without them. Sky, Baylee and Jan are our sales associates and they are great additions to our team as well,” commented Cheri. Beyond their Accent Prone team, Cheri and Justin know the importance of making their customers happy.
“We pride ourselves in customer service. Our customers are our number one priority and we take the time to work with each of them. If a customer wants help decorating their home or a certain space, they can bring in pictures of the area they need help with and dimensions of the space and we will do our best to work one on one with them in the store to select the best pieces for that area. Our advice is always free and none of us work on commission, so we truly help you select the best pieces for your space and the design, not necessarily the most expensive! Helping you enjoy your shopping experience is what we are here to do at Accent Prone, and we want everyone to feel at home and welcomed when they walk through our doors,” Cheri stated.
