There’s never a shortage of creativity and love at Accent Prone, but in completing the company’s latest makeover project, Cheri and Justin Lingafelt found it difficult to put into words the pure joy this particular endeavor brought the entire Accent Prone team.
“When you’re able to combine your passion and career with the ability to help others, there’s just no better feeling,” explains Cheri. “I hope this new little oasis will give the Byrds a peaceful environment and sense of calm.”
Andrew and Melissa Byrd were entered into Accent Prone’s room makeover contest by their sweet sister/sister-in-law Emily, and her entry was filled with such heartfelt words about the family’s loss of their daughter, Kensley Hope, to a heart defect, that the Byrds were an easy choice as this round’s winners. The entry’s last words were this: “With the one year mark of Kensley’s passing quickly approaching, I would love nothing more than to surprise them with a new bedroom and a new sense of ‘hope’ since losing their little girl.”
In Melissa’s own thankful words, they have found such peace in the makeover project.
“Cheri and Justin unknowingly appeared on our doorstep to announce we were the winners of a room renovation, all in the days leading up to the one year anniversary of the loss of our daughter,” explains Melissa. “Andrew, our son Braxton, and I were given so much more than expected in this entire process. They gifted us with something really exciting to look forward to, instead of solely focusing on the dread we were experiencing. We made new friends along the way that continue to inspire us, and we received an oasis in a master retreat, designed brilliantly by Cheri, providing peace and tranquility.”
Melissa says every detail of their new master suite was perfect, and she’s especially fond of the way Cheri created a photo wall with six family portraits.
“I look at these photos multiple times a day – with pride – and am quickly reminded how much I have to be thankful for!” she says.
A second contender for “favorite element” is the custom built-ins Cheri designed to outline the couple’s bed, with an archway at the top, and iridescent tile lining the back of each shelf.
Just as Cheri had hoped, the room has become a sweet escape for the entire family.
“I find myself reading to the glow of the light above my side of the bed, and Braxton loves to use the expanded closet as the perfect spot to sneak away to for hide and seek,” says Melissa. “Andrew frequently voices his continued appreciation for the amount of storage we have now – the way Cheri took our small space and transformed it into a room offering exceedingly more storage, while simultaneously making the room feel larger, is an incredible talent.”
As always, the Accent Prone team went above and beyond to listen to the wants and needs of the lucky winning family, building a room that worked seamlessly with their life.
“We not only designed and remodeled the entire space, but we also knocked out their closet and created a walk-in for maximum storage!” says Cheri. “The room is a mixture of Boho and modern, with a funky flair!”
For the Byrd family, it’s a mix of everything they hold dear.
“Everywhere I look I am reminded how blessed we are, from photos of our family to inspirational quotes about our daughter,” smiles Melissa. “This room reflects us and how far we have come on our journey as a family.”
