Adult Learning with a College Campus Atmosphere

24-Fleer-Center-C-SFWMany students say that one of the most appealing aspects of earning a degree through the Martha H. Fleer Center for Adult Education at Salem College is the sense of community and camaraderie students enjoy on the 243-year-old campus. The campus is the perfect place to build meaningful relationships with fellow students, professors and local business leaders while pursuing a quality education.

Designed for women and men ages 23 years and older who are interested in completing their college education, earning a certificate or taking a limited number of college courses, The Fleer Center program represents students who want to advance their careers, change careers, enrich their lives or finish an education that was started years ago.

24-Fleer-Center-B-SFW“Our staff and faculty understand that many adult learners juggle careers, families and community responsibilities. They often have a limited amount of time, and they desire an educational experience that honors those challenges,” said Dr. Sydney Richardson, Dean of the Fleer Center for Adult Education. “We are dedicated to making their transition into college life as smooth as possible, which is why we offer day and evening courses, tuition discounts and scholarships.”

For many students, the personal attention helps them navigate college life with ease.

“Many of our Fleer students range in ages from their 30s to their 60s, but we are also seeing more students in their mid-20s, along with veterans entering Salem through our program,” said Dr. Richardson. “With such diverse groups, Salem College offers the collegiate experience that many adult learners desire.”

To learn about earning a degree at Salem College, Dr. Richardson urges people to attend the free InfoSession on May 25th.

In 2008, Salem College named its continuing studies program the Martha H. Fleer Center for Adult Education in honor of the program’s founder, Dr. Martha Fleer. Fleer came to Salem College in 1973 and founded Salem College’s continuing studies program in the early 1980s.
