American Moving and Hauling Tips for Choosing a Good Moving Company

You may not know this, but the summer months are the busiest time of the year for people moving into new homes. The weather is fairly predictable, with longer, warm days and less rain, making it the ideal time to move. If you are preparing to move and you are trying to choose a moving company, there are important tips to remember.

Amy Cushman, owner of American Moving and Hauling, hears the horror stories of people who weren’t sure of what to look for in a mover after the fact, so she goes above and beyond in helping her customers in their moves, making the process, from beginning to end, a good one.

American Moving and Hauling has been in business for 12 years helping customers with residential and commercial moves, going the extra mile with scheduling, planning, coordinating, and taking care of everything needed for a good move.

“Experience counts and our track record shows our ability to deliver each and every time with expert customer service. From the moment a customer chooses to call us about their move, we establish a line of communication. Today, so many companies won’t return a call in a timely manner or even answer their phones. We strive every day to provide good communication because we know there are other companies out there our customers could’ve chosen, so we want them to know we appreciate their business,” said Amy. Whether you’re moving around the block, or across the country, American Moving and Hauling is licensed with the North Carolina Utilities Commission, as well as the DOT for out-of-state moves.

You can bet that if a moving company hasn’t won any awards for service, they aren’t going to win any awards from you. Remember that a great reputation speaks volumes about a company and reading reviews and doing a little research can save you money and a lot of trouble, because no one gives a glowing review to a company that over promised, under delivered and over charged. “We have gotten the Super Service Award from Angie’s List for the last three years, the Thumbtack Top Pro Award, and we maintain a 5-star rating online and an A rating with the BBB,” Amy commented.

The rule of thumb is that a great reputation and good reviews equal great rates. “At American Moving and Hauling, for local moves we charge an hourly rate, which includes everything except for packing materials and extra-large items, like pianos or safes. When we do a long-distance move, we give you a flat rate, so there are no hidden charges or fees. Furniture is pad wrapped and stretch wrapped as requested by the customer. We also make sure that we have the ideal number of movers on a job, which we determine during our initial discussions with the customer. The more information we have on the needs and expectations of the customer, the better we make their moving experience. We are insured and, like other licensed and insured movers in NC, the customer chooses which type of protection they want.  There are two different types:  basic value protection, covering items at $.60 per pound, which costs the customer no additional charge, or full value protection with an additional charge. This is regulated by the NC Utilities Commission and when a customer calls, I can explain the two types of protection,” stated Amy. For Amy and her team, the community that has supported them for the past 12 years inspires them to want to give back in a unique way.

“Beginning this year, we are working with Family Services to help assist domestic violence victims relocate at no cost. As a woman in business for myself, I see women who are at a stressful time in their lives, relocating for business or moving after a divorce, trying to do it all.  Having a moving company they can trust to have their best interests makes a big difference. After a woman decides to leave an abusive situation, she needs support and we are excited to be a part of helping those who need our services get a new start in life,” Amy said.
