Apps that Give Back!

With 2014 almost in the books and the giving season in full force, December is the perfect time for personal reflection. Did I complete the goals I set for myself? What can I improve upon? What can I add to or take off of my plate in the next year? Or how can I give a little more of myself without adding more to my already hectic life? Leave it to the one device we can’t live without to come up with a solution. There are many free apps that give back every time you use them. So since this is the season of giving, here are a few apps that will carry that joyful feeling with you the whole year through!

The Give Back Campaign
Help worthy causes every day with your purchases through The Give Back Campaign app. Using their website you can trigger donations to fundraising campaigns you’re supporting. With this app you can shop with bricks and mortar businesses and generate donations with every dollar you spend.

Simply load the app to your phone, search for participating retailers and give them your mobile number when paying your bill, and they’ll make a donation on your behalf.

Charity Miles: Free iOS and Android
This free app that monitors the distance of your runs, bike rides and walks and turns that hard work of yours into donations. Founded by Gene Gurkoff in 2012, he set out on a mission to raise money and awareness for Parkinson’s disease, honoring his grandfather who has the illness. Gurkoff practices what he preaches, too. He’s an avid marathon runner and has completed 6 Ironman Triathlons!

Earn $0.25 for each mile you run or walk, and earn $0.10 every mile you bike. Charity Miles pays the charities with funding from corporate sponsors and investors.

There are many charities to choose from, including: Autism Speaks, Feeding America, Habitat for Humanity, The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and many more. After you feel good about your donations, check out the Charity Miles blog for even more feel-good information: motivational stories, slogans and photos.

You’re going to work out anyway. Make your hard work pay off in a more important way.

Donate a Photo: iOS and Android
This free app from Johnson & Johnson takes your photos and turns them into a way to do good.

For every photo you share through Donate a Photo, Johnson & Johnson donates $1 to a cause you choose, which does things like fix up a public park, get medicine for an infant, or help kids play sports safely.

How it works:
1. Choose a cause.
2. Take a picture (either with the app or from your camera roll).
3. Share it (It’ll go in the Donate a Photo gallery and you can post it for all your friends to see on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram).
4. Johnson & Johnson gives $1 to the cause you chose. You can donate one photo a day, every day. And when your friends see your photos in their feeds, they’ll get inspired to help, too. So you can all raise more money and awareness and help your causes meet their goals even faster!

Pay it Forward: $0.99 iOS

Keep track of your progress as you go and share your progress with your friends and family. This app is designed to be a gentle reminder for you to help make the world a little bit better.
