B.E. Healthy: Love How You Move



Exercise, in my opinion, is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. While I do think what you eat is even more important, I still think that moving your body is crucial. However, doing exercise that you dread? That’s not helping you on your journey of living a healthy lifestyle. Move your body in a way that you LOVE.

I can’t count how many times I’ve heard people say… “I just don’t like to work out.” I would argue that this simply isn’t true. It’s not that you don’t like it, it’s just that you haven’t found the type of exercise that you enjoy doing. The other key to exercise is the duration. Of COURSE, you don’t like to work out if you are attempting to do a particular exercise (that you don’t even like that much) for an hour and a half! So where do you go from here?

Step 1: Find ways to move that you love.

Step 2: Start slow. Start with 5 or 10 minutes and work your way up to 30-45 minutes 4-5 times a week. And by all means, don’t do the SAME exercise for 30-45 minutes 4-5 times a week. Unless you really love it… then, be my guest! What happens if you stop enjoying it? You move on to something else! There is no rule that says you must stick with a certain type of exercise for a specific length of time. The day you stop enjoying it, is the day you begin looking for other ways to move your body.

Here are a few ideas for you:

  • Walking
  • Lifting weights
  • Yoga
  • Pilates
  • CrossFit
  • Hiking
  • Kayaking
  • Rollerblading
  • Horseback riding
  • Dancing
  • Bootcamp
  • Zumba
  • Jogging
  • Swimming
  • Biking
  • Washing your car
  • Working in the yard
  • Golfing
  • Basketball, baseball, soccer, etc.

I’d love to hear how you move! I challenge you to try out something new, and if you don’t love it, try something else. Change your mindset on exercise. It’s not something to dread, but something to look forward to. Be thankful that your body can move, no matter what type of workout you may be doing.
