B.E. Healthy: A Sip of Summer – Refresh Yourself Without the Calories

With July temperatures, and of course, vacations, it seemed appropriate to dedicate an entire article to summertime drinks. I’ve done the research for you and am sharing three of my favorite “lake (or beach…or pool…or porch) drinks.”

BONUS! They are all relatively low in sugar and calories.


#1: The Skinniest Pina Colada

My sister-in-law created this one and it’s a new family favorite. (Thanks, Erica!) It’s super easy and so delicious.


1 can coconut flavored LaCroix sparkling water

1 shot pineapple vodka

Optional: frozen chunks of pineapple

Combine LaCroix and vodka and add frozen pineapple as “ice cubes” if desired.


#2: Keela’s Vodka Tonic

This is my mom’s version of a vodka tonic. Not too different from your typical vodka tonic, just significantly lower in sugar and calories and a tad more flavor. (Did you know regular tonic water has over 30 grams of sugar and over 30 grams of carbohydrates?)


5 oz diet tonic water

1 shot of vodka

Triple Twist of Lime

Combine the above ingredients, pour over ice and enjoy!


#3: Skinny Champagne Margaritas

This one is straight off of Pinterest! (Thanks, Megan with “Salt and Wit.”) It’s light and refreshing with a bit of bubbles. Sounds perfect, right?


1 shot of silver tequila

2 ounces of your favorite champagne (I personally prefer prosecco over champagne)

2 ounces fresh lime juice

1 teaspoon agave syrup

1 lime wedge for garnish

Add all of the ingredients above to a glass halfway filled with ice, stir, and enjoy!


Consider replacing one of your go-to high-calorie alcoholic beverages with one of these delicious alternatives! I promise you won’t be disappointed. Please note, these drinks should be enjoyed in moderation. Heat plus too much alcohol is never a good thing; I would recommend drinking at least 8-12 ounces of water in-between each alcoholic beverage.
