Brooke Notes: The Publisher Prospective

I don’t know about y’all, but I love summertime. I grew up going to the lake most every weekend that the temperature was above 75 degrees and loved every second of it. I find that the typical anxieties of life tend to fade away when I’m on the water. Whether it be on a boat, a paddleboard, a surfboard, or just relaxing on a float… the water is my happy place. It must be genetics because the same can be said for my dad. Nothing makes my dad happier than being on a boat with his family (well, eating a piece of the coconut cake my Mamaw makes for him may come in at a close second).

I want to wish a very Happy Father’s Day to my dad (aka Teej), my Pop-Pop Charlie and to all the amazing fathers out there I have the pleasure of knowing. My dad and I have the same blue eyes, similar facial features and long legs. Want to know what I wish I had of his though? His patience. That man gets more and more patient the older he gets. I love and respect him more than I could ever put into words. He has no idea how much he’s taught me about relationships and about marriage. No husband is perfect, but in my eyes, my dad sure comes pretty close! I love being able to witness the way he treats my mom day in and day out. They celebrated 37 years of marriage last month and you can see it in his eyes when he looks at her how much he loves and adores her. Our family has been through a lot, and we lean on him and his laid back, calming nature to keep us in line.

Speaking of my lack of patience, I have an interesting question for you.

If you had a warning label, what would it say?

I’ve been asking our team a new question each month and this month’s is one of my favorites so far. Check out their (hilarious) warning label responses in our print issue.

Mine?

WARNING: Becomes extremely impatient and irritable with lack of food or exercise.

On the cover this month, we’ve featured the team at Marzano Capital Group. The Marzano team has always felt like family to me and I can’t imagine entrusting anyone else with my financial future. Take a minute to read the cover story to learn more about this business founded on family principles.

We’re proud to present our first-ever Father’s Day gift guide in this issue! From custom cookies at Cherry Tree Lane Cookies to engraved whiskey glasses from Old Nick Williams Farm & Distillery—we’ve got you covered. We’re excited to help you shop local for Father’s Day this year! Also new in this issue, a special page dedicated to some of the amazing businesses in the historic West End district. Supporting small, local businesses is at the heart of our mission and we think this new addition does just that!

Finally — I’m beyond thrilled to announce that Girls’ Night Out is BACK! We’re kicking off Girls’ Night Out on June 8th at Providence at the Manor House. You can RSVP HERE! Hope to see you there!

Wishing you a June full of all the happiness that summertime brings!

All my best,

B
