The Ezra Goldbach Foundation Golf Tournament

It is no wonder that Ezra Goldbach was an amazing young man after speaking with those who raised him. His parents, Don and Brenna Goldbach, decided to create a foundation for their son, so he would be remembered for the remarkable person he was as his memory helped others for years to come.

Because Ezra was an avid golfer and was even majoring in Professional Golf Management at Campbell University, it made perfect sense to host a golf tournament as a way to raise money for the foundation which has some lofty goals to achieve. “We have started a 501c3 in hopes to raise money for scholarships in Stokes and Surry County schools,” said Don Goldbach. “Depending on how well the tournament does, we hope to have enough for two scholarships per year. The scholarship amount will be determined by the amount raised. The recipients will need to be on a high school golf team and can be male or female. Ezra loved golf so much that even his friends who never would have played the sport became golfers. He had the ability to make everyone think they wanted to golf. This is why we feel this tournament will be successful.”

No one knew Ezra better than his family and friends, but golf opened up a whole other world for him. “Ezra was a quiet, almost shy, kid,” said Don. “He was a natural athlete that loved many different sports, from football to snow skiing. The summer between 8th and 9th grade, he started playing golf. Golf quickly became Ezra’s favorite sport, and it allowed him to open up and come out of his shell. The better golfer he became, the more outgoing he was. He was the most comfortable on the golf course; it was almost a second home when he turned 16 and could drive himself there. The foundation is the best way to honor him and keep that passion in our lives. It’s exactly what he would want.”

The details of the tournament are fairly simple. “First, you can sign up to play,” said Don. “Teams are four players and $300. Also, we are selling Tee Sponsors for $100. This will allow your business to advertise at the tournament. We are looking for donations for prizes and a silent auction. Our hope is that the tournament will be an annual event that families and friends look forward to every year. The most important thing is to raise money for a scholarship that will be awarded to a graduating student in Stokes or Surry County; for those who, like Ezra, love the game.”

The Ezra Goldbach Foundation Golf Tournament takes place on Friday, July 28th at the Pilot Knob Park Country Club in Pilot Mountain. The format for the tournament will be Captain’s Choice/Scramble and will have starting times of 8:30 am and 2 pm with shotgun starts. Lunch will be served between start times.
