Forsyth Plastic Surgery: A complete medical laser center … to make you look as young as you feel

When you’re ready to look as young as you feel, there’s nothing that compares to experience and trust. As the most established plastic surgery group in the area, Forsyth Plastic Surgery operates at the Plastic Surgery Center of North Carolina, a facility catering to cosmetic surgery patients. That’s their specialty – and the experience of their four board-certified surgeons speaks for itself.

Proud to offer many laser procedures that are comfortable, reliable and reasonable, the staff also includes certified aesthetician Jessica Shea, and registered nurses with specialized training in the field.

“We have always wanted to stay on the cutting edge of technology and lasers certainly represent some of the most advanced and sophisticated equipment available,” says Dr. John Fagg. “With our current lasers, we can do many things: remove tattoos, tighten skin, smooth wrinkles and even reduce unwanted hair.” The newest laser is the PicoSure Laser by Cynosure that removes tattoos and brown spots due to aging. “We are very excited about this incredible new laser that has truly amazing technology,” says Dr. Andrew Schneider. “We can now remove tattoos with less pain, fewer treatments and less cost.”

The PicoSure uses laser energy to break the tattoo pigments into small pieces that can be absorbed by the body over time. “Usually four to eight treatments are needed,” notes Jessica. “Very few offices in the state have this laser.” Its state-of-the-art technology allows the laser to fire for only a trillionth of a second. That means the energy is directed through the skin at a rate so fast that it’s not damaged – only the tattoo pigment is damaged — and the body gets rid of it. Many patients see the tattoo lighten by 50% after just one or two treatments.

One of the most popular laser treatments at Forsyth Plastic Surgery is fractional CO2 laser resurfacing. “With the CO2 laser, we can smooth deeper wrinkles on the face and tighten skin around the mouth and eyes,” says Dr. Gilson Kingman. “Downtime is only a few days, and most of our patients think the results are worth the few days of healing.”

The office also has lasers to remove unsightly hair and veins. “Our lasers can effectively reduce unwanted hair in almost any area of the body,” says Dr. Fagg. “The laser attacks the root of the hair follicle so no more hair is produced.”

“Laser hair removal has been something that we have been offering for over 10 years, and the technology continues to improve,” says Dr. George Lawson. “We can now treat almost all skin types. If someone has unwanted hair, or just doesn’t want to shave or wax an area, then laser hair reduction can be terrific.”

Laser vein reduction is also popular. “Many of our patients have small red veins on the face that are bothersome,” says Dr. Schneider. “With our VersaPulse laser we can usually get rid of them in one or two sessions.”

Stressing that safety is always a main concern throughout the practice, Dr. Kingman notes how powerful lasers can be. “We make sure that eyes are protected and would never do a laser procedure on someone who is not a reasonable candidate. We have always believed that we should own the lasers, rather than rent them a few hours every month. So because we own them, we develop the expertise with each one and know what they can and can’t do.”
