Getting to Know the Village Inn

When you need a hotel for overnight accommodations, meeting space, or you’re looking for the venue for a larger scale event or celebration, it can be difficult to “shop local.” However, if you like to keep it local, then we would love to introduce you to Village Inn Event Center – a locally owned, boutique hotel, that caters to local, invests in local, and believes in local. Lana Scholtfeldt, general manager and director of catering and events, shared about Village Inn and their commitment to local.

DH: How long have you been with Village Inn Event Center?

LS: I’ve been at this property since 1995, back when it was the Ramada. When Dana Bryson bought the property in 2011, I stayed on. I love it here, especially helping others plan their special events.

DH: What kind of events does Village Inn Event Center host?

LS: We do everything from weddings and corporate events, to quinceañeras, trade shows, retreats, educational and medical seminars – you name it! If you have an event, we can handle it.

DH: Tell us about your event space and meeting rooms.

LS: We have nine banquet rooms in various sizes. Our event rooms, depending on the seating, can accommodate as many as 1,000 people. Our smaller boardrooms and breakout rooms can comfortably fit 25.

DH: Since the Village Inn Event Center is independently owned, and not a franchise, tell us what the benefits are for those planning an event versus booking with a larger, retail chain?

LS: There are so many benefits, it’s hard to know where to start! But the first thing that comes to mind would be our flexibility. Franchises are limited to corporate policies, but working with a small, independent establishment like Village Inn Event Center means we can put together packages that are more tailored and individualized for the event.

Moreover, it’s important to note that we offer the same level of professionalism and courtesy as one would expect from an event center. Hospitality is the heart of our business, and we work hard to employee team members who embrace that warm, friendly style for which we are known.

For residents and local business owners, choosing Village Inn Event Center is another opportunity to “Shop Local.” People are increasingly mindful of the importance of supporting local retailers, but the same holds true for businesses like ours, too. Statistics say that for every $100 spent at a locally owned establishment, 70% remains in our community, versus 48% spent at a chain.

DH: Forsyth Magazines can certainly attest to all those things since we have worked with Village Inn Event Center on several occasions! But let’s switch gears to food!

LS: Our head chef, Araceli Cabrera, is masterful at creating catering menus and dining options for every budget and every guest. We have a full-service catering department. Lili Salgado, our banquet manager, and Araceli are a phenomenal team.

Our catering division can handle groups of virtually any size, and for those who want a taste of what they can expect, they should visit The Crosby Pub, our in-house restaurant that is open to the public! Whether you want to visit for Taco Tuesday, Hamburger Night Thursday, or Wings Night on Friday, our menu features mouthwatering selections, many of which are also available on our catering menu!

DH: In addition to the meeting space, what else does Village Inn Event Center offer?

LS: We are a full-service property and also have over 140 guest rooms. With our central location, we are an ideal property for weddings or sales meetings since we also offer guest room accommodations. We offer our guests free Wi-Fi, and of course, we have an onsite pool, gym, and offer free parking. There’s also the added convenience of room service and the in-house restaurant, The Crosby Pub.

DH: How does Village Inn Event Center support the local community?

LS: As previously mentioned, shopping small applies to our property, too! We invest in our community and are proud sponsors of special events such as Susan G. Komen’s Zumbathon as well as the No Limits II Dance. We love working with non-profits, and in the past, we’ve hosted a silent auction for Make a Wish Foundation and worked with notable organizations such as Autism Speaks, Hispanic League, and HOPE of Winston-Salem.

DH: Though Village Inn Event Center is independent and locally owned, and not a part of a franchise, you do have a “sister,” right?

LS: Yes, we are a sister-property of Brookstown Inn in downtown Winston-Salem, and we have a great rapport with them. We share their same philosophy for hospitality. Those who are familiar with Brookstown Inn can feel confident about the type of service we offer, too.
