The Goldman Center for Facial Plastic Surgery – Lifting Faces & Souls

Bringing out the best in every person whose path crosses his, Dr. Neal D. Goldman is proud to serve our community and equally proud of his heartfelt charitable work through the HUGS organization: Help Us Give Smiles.

Giving smiles – along with newfound confidence – has always been the goal of The Goldman Center for Facial Plastic Surgery, which focuses solely on cosmetic facial rejuvenation. The best news: Sometimes the results rejuvenate the soul as much as the beautiful face! “Everybody sees something different in the mirror,” said Dr. Goldman.

As a 100% facial specialist, he concentrates only from the neck up, and does not perform hand work, breast work or any other type of surgery. That’s how patients through the years have known he is both knowledgeable and completely focused on improving their facial features. While he and his staff always look for ways to assist a patient non-surgically first, such as laser treatments and specific skin care treatments or injectables, every case is different. He likes to examine every element of a patient’s life to put together the best personal options.

Dr. Goldman is double board certified with both The American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and The American Board of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery. His goal is to focus on the individual’s aging face concerns.

“I’ve been taking care of aging faces in Winston-Salem since 1999,” said Dr. Goldman. “People always ask if a facelift or neck lift is the only answer for lifting jowls.” As we age, the soft tissue and skin of the lower face begin to descend. Fillers are temporary treatments that can work for early signs of jowling. “The tried-and-true method of a lower facelift with an experienced surgeon really provides the best and most long-lasting result,” he said.

Dr. Goldman uses computer imaging to project the patient’s face and neck area from all angles, and honestly address any potential limitations, giving patients a clear view of what they can realistically expect. Most of the center’s facelift patients are in their 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s, but Dr. Goldman states most people begin to examine their necks while still in their forties. “It is not about the patient’s age, but rather about his or her overall health and outlook on life that makes for a good candidate,” said Dr. Goldman. We all know the eventual loosening of skin is inevitable with age, but factors such as genetics, sun exposure, stress and diet can accelerate the process. A facelift is designed to remove excess skin and fat, while repositioning the skin, muscle and deeper tissues.

“People are interested in minimizing downtime and ask about a mini-lift or weekend facelift. Everyone is an individual and should do what is best for him or her and the current situation,” said Dr. Goldman. “We can provide a quicker recovery period with more subtle results with a mini-lift that address the skin but not the muscle layers, or we can perform a more traditional facelift which has a longer recovery but will give the long-lasting results that women (and more and more men) seek.”

Mingled with his busy practice – both locally and an office in Boone, NC – Dr. Goldman believes strongly in giving back to his community, as well as on an international level, and is active with HUGS mission trips where he performs surgery multiple times every year on children with congenital deformities in foreign locations such as Guatemala and Hanoi, Vietnam.
