The Historic Brookstown Inn: A Quintessential Gathering Place

The Historic Brookstown Inn, located on the outskirts of Old Salem, is richly woven into the tapestry of Winston-Salem. Originally built in 1837 as a textile mill by members of the Moravian congregation, Salem Cotton Manufacturing played an important role in the Industrial Revolution and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. A multi-million dollar rehabilitation project transformed the former mill into a charming four-story, 70-room inn that opened to the public forty years ago. With its exposed interior brick walls, original timber ceilings, and refinished historic pine floors, this charming “living museum of history, art, and treasure” pays homage to the past while offering guests every modern convenience,

Long known as the “romance inn,” Allison Southard, Director of Sales, notes that the Historic Brookstown Inn offers event spaces for every occasion. From The Grand Ballroom to more intimate settings like the J. Burns Boardroom and Brookstown Courtyard, there are ideal spots for every group size and budget. The Historic Brookstown Inn with its impeccable southern hospitality, delicious catering options, and affordable rates is the perfect choice for business, education, celebration, and “just because” gatherings!

Many of the meeting spaces may be secured with as little as 24 hours notice (5 days are required if catering is involved), but larger spaces may require booking up to one year in advance. Free, onsite parking, a rare amenity in downtown Winston-Salem, is available on the upper and lower levels, providing guests with direct access to the front lobby and The Grand Ballroom.

Exceptional Catering

The excellence of the catering staff, with Chef Marty leading the way, ensures the highest quality dining experience, whether passed hors d’oeuvres, sandwich platters, or a plated dinner service. For $10.00 per person (e.g., breakfast biscuit station) for a morning board meeting or $37.00 per person (e.g., elaborate dinner buffet) for a wedding reception, there are options at every price point. Chef Marty, a graduate of the Savannah School of the Arts, became interested in cooking from a young age, working in the kitchen alongside his grandmother. Using local ingredients, Chef Marty draws heavily from his southern palate to design menu items that “will look as good as they taste.” Southard states that the unique creations and “over-the-top” presentation are a direct reflection of the passion Chef Marty puts into every dish. Guests may choose from an extensive list of items on the catering menu or Chef Marty (who has a fondness for Korean and French cuisines) can create a custom menu for any need at a reasonable price – if you can dream it, he can make it happen!
