Lyndhurst has been delivering care to Winston-Salem women for generations. Drs. Eugene Linton and Donald Whitener founded Lyndhurst Gynecologic Associates in 1970 with the aim to provide the very best obstetric and gynecologic care for women of Winston-Salem. Over the subsequent forty-six years, the providers, staff, locations and services have continued to grow to meet the needs of their patients. They have added office locations in Mount Airy, Kernersville and King, and are now expanding their Winston-Salem space to a brand new, state-of-the-art building in the former Hanes Mill plant location.
Previously separated among three office buildings, Lyndhurst will now offer the same wide array of services in one new 57,000 square-foot modern building. The providers and staff of Lyndhurst worked closely with the architect to custom design the building that would serve them and their patients well for the next few generations. From little details, like the covered drive entryway to the private exit for post-operative patients, they were careful to anticipate the needs of their patients. The building is fully handicapped accessible, and parking space is ample.
Lyndhurst’s new office space will offer the full gamut of health care services for women, including well-woman exams, obstetric care, menopause and hormone treatment, gynecologic and OB ultrasounds, infertility evaluation and treatment, urogynecology evaluations, in-office surgery, 3D mammography, bone densitometry testing and lab work. They have a beautiful medical spa offering laser hair removal and vein treatment, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, Botox therapy and Juvederm filler treatment. The same building will also house their fully functional clinical research department which offers patients an opportunity to enroll in clinical research trials for some of the most up to date options in women’s health care.
“Our hope is that by consolidating all of our services into one place, patients can spend less time running to appointments,” said Brad Jacobs, M.D. “Ideally, a patient can schedule several different services on the same day, in the same visit: like their annual well-woman exam plus an annual screening mammogram, lab work and bone density exam. This provides our patients the care and quality they expect, in an office they trust, with minimal time away from their job or their family.”
Lyndhurst is committed to providing patients and their families the finest obstetric care. They have at least one physician devoted only to covering the hospital (Maya Angelou Center for Women’s Health at Forsyth Medical Center) every day. This allows the physician to attend to hospitalized patients more readily and helps prevent unexpected delays for patients scheduled in the office. Lyndhurst has several obstetric coordinators on staff to help support their patients, answering questions and helping to coordinate information and care throughout the pregnancy.
Other pregnancy services include childbirth classes offered by obstetric coordinators right in the office, helping patients to prepare for labor, delivery and the postpartum period. Lauri Cox, a Family Nurse Practitioner and International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant, offers breastfeeding classes in the office, as well as postpartum support of breastfeeding.
Andrea Conley, a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner with four years of experience in OB/Gyn, recently joined Lyndhurst and brings with her a wealth of experience in pregnancy group visit care. CenteringPregnancy© is a model of pregnancy care which combines monthly health assessments with prenatal education and peer support within a small group of patients. This model was developed in the 1990s and has been statistically proven to reduce preterm birth rates. Lyndhurst plans to use Andrea’s experience and their newly expanded space to initiate a CenteringPregnancy© program in the Hanestown building. Of course, they will also continue to offer excellent traditional prenatal care as they have always done.
Women have various healthcare needs throughout their lives. With the strength and the special interests of their physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and staff, Lyndhurst Gynecologic Associates provides specialized care for women of every generation. Gynecologic care services range from teen contraceptive care, through health maintenance over the years, to menopausal health care.
Lyndhurst is committed to providing support for long-acting reversible contraceptive choices in their community. They have streamlined a new process whereby family practice and adolescent medicine offices, as well as student health clinics, can refer young women for counseling and initiation of long-acting reversible contraceptive (LARC) choices like IUDs and the contraceptive implant, Nexplanon.
Dr. Brad Jacobs is board certified in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, and along with Drs. Scott Washburn and Amber Hatch, he allows Lyndhurst to provide a variety of surgical and non-surgical options for treatment of urinary and fecal incontinence and pelvic relaxation.
Dr. Washburn also provides the practice with a wide knowledge base regarding osteoporosis and bone health management, as well as menopausal hormone management. Lyndhurst will continue to offer central Bone Densitometry (DEXA) testing in their new building.
Lyndhurst also offers a wide range of infertility services, including evaluations for both male and female infertility, donor or partner insemination, ovulation induction, and evaluation and lab monitoring in conjunction with outside in-vitro fertilization specialists.
Lyndhurst’s new Hanestown building will continue to provide a variety of ancillary services such as in-house phlebotomy, high-resolution obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound and in-house mammography (including 3D mammography). The second floor of the building will house their mammography and DEXA screening, as well as their clinical research department, medical spa, urogynecology center and in-office surgery suite.
It makes sense that women would want to seek care where they are comfortable. It’s nice to be treated by folks you know, like and trust. From the founding physicians, Drs. Linton and Whitener, to the new generation of providers working there now (including Dr. Pollard’s daughter, Dr. Nell Johnson, who joined the practice in 2013), Lyndhurst has always prided itself on serving women well through every stage of their lives. Their vision is to provide care of continuously improving quality, and they have adapted their practice over the years to accommodate that. Their new building at 111 Hanestown Court is just one more demonstration that Lyndhurst Gynecologic Associates is committed to delivering care for generations!
