A Novel Idea: Jancee Dunn: How Not to Hate Your Husband After Kids

About the Author:

Jancee Dunn, a New York Times bestselling author, grew up in the northeast. She and her family now reside in Brooklyn. She has written four other books, including a children’s book, an essay collection and co-authored a biography (Cyndi Lauper: A Memoir). Her essay collection Why Is My Mother Getting a Tattoo? was a finalist for the Thurber Prize for American Humor. Jancee was a staff writer for Rolling Stone for a number of years. She has also contributed a number of articles to nationally recognized publications such as Vogue, Parents, The New York Times and more. She’s assumed a variety of roles in her career – a veejay for MTV and an entertainment correspondent for ABC’s Good Morning America. Her latest book, How Not to Hate Your Husband After Kids, was released in March 2017.

Inspiration:

Jancee’s experiences as she and her husband embarked into parenthood serve as the inspiration and model for How Not to Hate Your Husband After Kids. As she shared, their pre-children lives were fairly equal in terms of work and home life balance. Generally, they shared household responsibility to keep their home humming along. Bringing their child into the mix resulted in dramatic changes, mostly on her side of the equation. Reaching out to a variety of experts (including an FBI hostage negotiator), Jancee offers a satirical, humorous view of transitioning to parenthood in the modern world.

About How Not to Hate Your Husband After Kids:

Jancee writes with humor and satire about something that mothers the world over can relate to – that feeling that everything child-related is the mom’s responsibility. This unequal balance of who does what has resulted in arguments, slamming doors and tears for eons. However, with the help of a number of experts in their fields, some experimentation and perseverance, Jancee identifies trigger points and offers solutions for parents to reclaim their relationship in the new realm of parenthood.

In addition to the humor (and what parent doesn’t need that?), Jancee provided practical commentary on topics from finance, what chores a child can take on by age (yes, they get to help too), to learning to work together with your spouse and appreciate their efforts.

Reading How Not to Hate Your Husband After Kids would be a great idea to undertake before children arrive and would make an excellent shower gift.
