Piedmont Federal Savings Bank — Putting the “Personal” Back in Personal Finance

Whether you are opening your first checking account, buying or refinancing a home, or starting to save for retirement, choosing the right bank for you is one of the most important decisions you can make. Establishing the trust and relationship to help you with your financial concerns gives you peace of mind. You want a bank that puts you first, offering you the services you need, as well as the “personal” in personal banking. Since its inception in 1903, Piedmont Federal Savings Bank’s foundation has been built on helping its customers achieve their dreams. The bank was founded by a small group of businessmen who had the desire to help individuals and families reach their goals of home ownership and building financial assets. It was the vision and effort of the founders to provide a safe and stable savings plan and an economical way for the average family to buy or build a home, paying for it in monthly installments.

“Piedmont Federal Savings Bank was founded right here in Winston-Salem, and our first office was at 452 North Liberty Street,” said Piedmont Federal’s Vice President of Marketing & Business Development Ginger Salt. “We’ve been in business in Forsyth County for more than 112 years and are the oldest existing financial institution founded in Winston-Salem.” Today, the bank has employees at 10 offices that hold tight to the original belief of the bank’s founders and who have the knowledge and expertise to help you with your financial decisions. Locally, at the Hanes Mill Branch, the ladies “in charge” have a total of 113 years of banking knowledge. Experiencing the ups and downs in the economy for so many years enables them to help you with a variety of your savings and home loan needs.

Throughout the more than 112 years in business, Piedmont Federal Savings Bank has taken a long-term approach to growth. “Our growth has come totally from earnings and not from acquisitions of other financial institutions,” said Piedmont Federal’s President & CEO Ric Wagner. “While growth is certainly important, financial safety and soundness are the main driving forces for us. Protecting and providing for our customers’ deposits, homes and their financial peace of mind is our main priority. The bank will continue to focus on profitable growth and, at the same time, help our local communities we are privileged to serve.”

A Philosophy for Today’s Investor

From the very beginning, the mission of Piedmont Federal Savings Bank has been to serve its customers who always come first! Piedmont Federal Savings Bank is a well-capitalized mutual institution that promotes financial success for their customers through affordable home loans and safe, secure savings delivered with extraordinary customer service, going the extra mile for customers.

Going above and beyond for customers is an everyday occurrence for Piedmont Federal Savings Bank’s staff. Assistant Vice President/Branch Manager at the Hanes Mill Branch Rebecca Mabe is committed to meeting her customers’ needs every time. In one case, Rebecca travelled to a customer’s home to close her mortgage because the customer had difficulty in getting into the office. The customer care associates regularly walk elderly customers who need assistance to and from their cars. “We are very committed to making banking a very positive experience for our customers,” said Rebecca. “The Hanes Mill Branch has customers who enjoy coming to visit and spend a little time just talking. As the branch manager, I along with our customer care specialist, Brandy Miller, as well as customer care associates, Chantea’ Coger, Denise Snyder and Regina Fluitt, get to know our customers which helps us to address their specific needs. We learned good customer service from our employees who were here before us and taught us the importance of treating people the way we would want to be treated.”

Traditional Values and Modern Conveniences

Piedmont Federal Savings Bank recognizes the importance of traditional values to customers like loyal, long-term staff who know your name when you come in, and who are responsive, caring and straightforward. In addition, mortgage decisions start local and stay local, and Piedmont Federal does not sell its loans. “Though the mortgage process has become increasingly more complex in recent years, Piedmont Federal remains committed to keeping it seamless to our customers,” said Piedmont Federal Loan Officer Nicole Mitchell. “We take the time to walk them through the process, and we are with them from start to finish. I will be here — from beginning the application, through closing and for any questions or service needs that arise during the life of the loan.”

Hand in hand with the traditional values of Piedmont Federal are the modern conveniences customers want. The bank provides low-fee and free checking options, complimentary online and mobile/text banking, and a variety of money transfer services, including Popmoney, a simple and secure way to send and receive money via email and mobile devices without having to share private account information. In addition, Piedmont Federal offers free ATM transactions anywhere in the world. The bank will refund any usage fees other banks may charge.
