Rehabilitation Reinvented

BY GREGORY CARPENTER

Salemtowne Rehabilitation Center is Forsyth County’s exclusive provider of the Home in Just 10 Days™ program which specializes in short stays after surgery or illness. The goal of our Home in Just 10 Days™ rehabilitation program is for patients to receive the intensive treatment they need to recover as quickly as possible so that they can return home. Salemtowne goes beyond clinical outcomes to ensure that our guests have an experience that exceeds their expectations.

Tucker McDonald, who developed the Home in Just 10 Days™ program, said, “A lot of seniors understandably have a fear of going to a skilled care facility because they think they will be staying there for good. That’s not the case at Salemtowne. When you get rehab services there, the plan is very clear from the start that you are going home as soon as possible.”

Since opening the 40-bed rehabilitation center inside the new Babcock Health Care Center last summer, people have been coming to Salemtowne not only from Winston-Salem, but also from across North Carolina and lower Virginia to receive physical therapy, occupational therapy or speech therapy treatments.  And here’s a little-known secret:  you don’t have to already be a resident at Salemtowne to receive rehabilitation care there.  Most people receive rehabilitation during an inpatient stay, but Salemtowne does outpatient therapy as well.

“Our goal is to provide personalized care to our patients, get them out of transitional rehab and back into their normal life routines as quickly as possible,” Salemtowne Administrator of Health Services Jay Matthews said.

“Salemtowne provides rehabilitation services seven days a week, which allows for much faster progress, and offers treatments to assist with recovery from a wide range of procedures, including orthopedic surgery, stroke, back surgery, pneumonia, and other general surgeries,” Salemtowne Rehab Director Anna Hutchins said.  “One of my favorite stories is that of a husband and wife from the Dobson area who both had a rehab stay here followed by outpatient therapy. They loved to come back to Salemtowne together for appointments and then enjoy a meal in the Main Street Café before heading back home.”

“Pre-registering for your rehab stay makes your transition after surgery easier,” Salemtowne Director of Transitional Rehabilitation Carlotta Lambert said.  “All you have to do is make one phone call to me, and I’ll take it from there. From room arrangements to the paperwork required for insurance – we do everything for you. Best of all:  most rehab is covered by insurance or Medicare.”
