Still Life Market ~ Finding the Story of Your Home

Hannah Wilson takes her local business – and its clever name – very seriously, and she’s passionate about how her efforts brighten and change her clients’ lives on a daily basis.

“By definition, a still life is a work of art depicting inanimate objects arranged by the artist in a way that will tell a story,” explains the thoughtful Hannah. “Even if the piece is purportedly meaningless, there is always an underlying thought process behind the work. Like that art form, our homes should tell our story and be a reflection of who we are!”

So, for us, that means that a trip to see what Still Life Market is all about is most definitely in order! Whether you’re shopping for your first home, upsizing, downsizing, or just need something new and inspiring to perk up the everyday routine, the Market’s sole purpose is to help clients bring life and happiness to their spaces. Hannah and her husband, Jeff, absolutely love it, and this is their story.

“My husband and I have been working on fixer-uppers together since we bought the first one back in 2002,” Hannah notes. “Since then, we have turned ugly houses into beautiful homes, and helped many homeowners fall in love with their space again.”

Hannah admits she’s always had a love for taking something older and well-used and proving there’s still new life left in it. She calls it seeing the “as-is” as the “could-be,” and she’s encouraging customers of Still Life Market to follow that same creative line of thinking.

“Long before Pinterest, I had notebooks and (real!) cork boards, a collection of paint chips, and numerous magazine cut-outs of all the house plans, design ideas, and color combinations I liked,” says Hannah. While she was a senior in high school, her grandfather provided her first “house flipping” opportunity, and with his guidance, the pair completed renovations on two houses during that year.

“It set the stage for what I wanted to do,” says Hannah, who is delighted that customers compare her and Jeff to Chip and Joanna Gaines of “Fixer Upper” fame. “I consider it a great privilege when I can help someone create their own space with the furnishings and designs we provide.”

Still Life Market carries a wonderful – and varied – collection of market samples, closeouts, and manufacturers’ discontinued items, and they love being able to pass the savings along to their cost-conscious customers. They also carry out-of-the-box furnishings and offer manufacturers’ catalog ordering if that better suits the customer’s needs for their current home project.

“Today’s shoppers appreciate American-made products, so we try to meet those needs by offering brands such as Thomasville, Kincaid, and many others,” explains Hannah. “We also work closely with a local woodworker who handles custom orders for us, as well as building beautiful tables and accessories.”

If you think Still Life Market is just another home furnishings store, take another look. Their inventory – and their passion – is about so much more than that.

“Not only will we help you fill your space, but we will also help you design it as well,” says Hannah.

Even now, her husband will still run across a well-worn item somewhere and ask, “What can you do with this?” That’s proof that creativity and finding beauty where you live should be a daily goal!
