The Weller Life at Homestead Hills

With life dramatically changing in 2020, planning for the future has become ambiguous at best. Most aspects of life have changed in some manner, but there is order within the chaos and pleasantry in the noise. People have come together with support and compassion for one another – a genuine camaraderie pivotal to experiencing the beauty of life. Homestead Hills recognizes that times have changed, but their mission has not. They are caring professionals dedicated to quality services in a community where our Members live longer, healthier, and happier lives.

The Weller Life

Homestead Hills prides itself on providing a holistic approach to retirement living. “There is peace of mind for our Members that everything is taken care of,” said Anne Letsky, one of the community’s lifestyle advisors. Members have the freedom to create their own schedules as the community plays host each day to wellness programs, social activities, clubs, and freshly prepared dining options, all conveniently located in one place. In addition to the upscale amenities, Members have high-quality on-site care available as the community offers a broad array of services, including Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, Skilled Nursing, and Rehab. Offering a full spectrum of refined amenities and innovative services, the community has continually pushed the boundaries to create a repertoire of award-winning programs. Homestead Hills has won the Argentum Senior Living National ‘Best of the Best’ Award five times for programs like J.O.Y (Joining Older and Younger social events), C.L.I.M.B. (lower body strength program), and WAVES (Aquatic Fitness for those with Alzheimer’s and dementia).

“Our lifestyle is based on wellness,” said Jay Matthews, the community’s executive director. “Wellness isn’t just working out three days per week; it consists of eating balanced meals, remaining in good physical shape, enjoying conversations with friends and receiving the care that they may require.” The community’s leadership works together to ensure that each of these pillars are accessible for Members each day.

A Culinary Celebration

At Homestead Hills, Members delight in full-service dining, which emphasizes a variety of freshly prepared meals and elegant dining experience. Meals are crafted under the direction of the community’s Director of Dining Services, Sara Aguilar, Executive Chef, Michael Nasrallah, and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Mary Kate Schaible. Menu options are unique day-to-day and each meal can be customized to the Members requests. “We want Members to enjoy their dining experience and our team is happy to customize the meal to their specifications,” said Chef Michael. Chef Michael has worked with Members to build and refresh the team’s dining proficiency through his monthly community cooking demonstrations entitled the ‘Chef Michael Show.’ Each month he chooses a different theme, including a class on order customization, Halloween themed pumpkin carving, and Bourbon Heritage Month. Each day, their dining department is going above and beyond to ensure that Members are enjoying a unique variety of meals.

Social Excellence

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 11 million, or 28% of people aged 65 or older live alone. Living alone does not inevitably lead to social isolation, but it can be a contributing factor. To ensure that Members have the opportunity to interact with their peers and neighbors according to proper social distancing guidelines, they are encouraged to participate in a full calendar of daily events. Events include art class, bible study, choir, hobby clubs, day trips, guest lecturers, lunch outings, movie night, trivia, cooking classes, billiards, and more. Events are scheduled and prepared with the Members’ safety a priority. With an entire team of professionals dedicated to fostering the vibrant lifestyle at Homestead Hills, they’re able to combine proper safety precautions with entertainment. “I enjoy making people happy, and do it every chance I get to,” said Christie Martin, social director. “When we are focusing on our Members having a good time, the fun comes naturally.” Normally, one day each month, residents and staff participate in a ‘Signature Experience’ where each activity that day is connected to the theme through food, fitness, and fun. Recent themes have included Jekyll and Hyde, The Andy Griffith Show, and British Invasion. The Members are eagerly anticipating the return of Signature Events once safety guidelines permit!

Wellness

Wellness plays an integral role in the lives of residents and Community Wellness Director Meagan Isaacs is at the helm of the award-winning wellness programming. “Our Members are motivated and excited to continue their fitness journey and I have the privilege of being a part of it,” she says. The wellness team works one-on-one and in group settings with Members in classes that are held throughout the week. Personalized schedules and fitness tracts allow individuals to focus on their specific goals. Over 15 unique classes are held throughout the week, which includes Men in Motion, Sole Strength, Line Dancing, Wake Up Workout, Water Aerobics, Tai Chi, and More. These classes assist in relaxation, better sleep, standing, balance, and flexibility, all of which are important for seniors.
