Trellis Kentucky Derby Party: Celebrating 10 years of Fun for a Good Cause

There’s no better event than the Kentucky Derby to usher in spring and you don’t have to be in Churchill Downs to have the Kentucky Derby experience. The 10th Annual Trellis Kentucky Derby Party is right around the corner with all the fun and mint juleps you can have without a horse close by.

In 2012, the Trellis Supportive Care (TSC) Leadership Council was founded and that same year they sponsored the first Kentucky Derby Fundraiser. “The TSC Leadership Council is a group of young community leaders passionate about community involvement and philanthropy. We found an incredible organization in Trellis Supportive Care and wanted to support their mission to provide care for individuals with life-limiting illness, as well as their families,” said Chris Munnelly, TSC Leadership Council Chair.

Trellis Supportive Care is North Carolina’s original hospice and palliative care provider and has been providing kind and compassionate care to the Piedmont Triad for more than 40 years. Anyone, including family and friends, can make a referral and since there is no cost to the patient, you or your loved ones can always benefit from any of the services offered. Trellis also provides help long before hospice is required, which usually translates to less discomfort and pain. 100% of the proceeds from the Kentucky Derby Party go to fund the Trellis Supportive Care Foundation.

“The funds we raise support Trellis’s services and activities that are not covered by traditional insurance, as well as other programs, such as grief counseling and Camp Carousel, a camp for children who have experienced loss,” Chris commented.

To say that ‘a good time will be had by all’ may be an understatement for the Kentucky Derby Party.

“Our Kentucky Derby event is full of energy! Attendees will experience all that Churchill Downs has to offer on race day! There is live bluegrass music, dancing, signature Derby themed cocktails, a ‘can’t miss’ silent auction, a wine raffle, a creative photo booth, your chance to wager on the winning horse, and of course, a best dressed door prize! It is a great opportunity to dress to the nines in your Derby best and raise funds for an incredible organization that we are fortunate to have here in our local community. This year’s event is on Saturday, May 7th, 5-7pm, at The Atrium Biotech Plane in Innovation Quarter, in downtown Winston-Salem. Tickets are $75/ person or $150/ VIP ticket, which include 6 ‘experience vouchers’ and a signature custom mint julep cup. There are also general admission tickets which include an open bar, heavy hors d’oeuvres, live music, silent auction, wine and horse raffle, and of course, an excuse to dress in your Derby best!” stated Chris.

The care and services that Trellis Supportive Care provides help both patients and family members with comfort, dignity, and peace-of-mind when it matters most. While the care Trellis addresses focuses on pertinent medical needs, it also enhances the emotional, spiritual, and social well-being. Although most patients receive care in their homes, Trellis also provides services to nursing home residents, assisted living communities, group and rest homes, and at the family-oriented Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Counseling and bereavement services are also available to patients and families at no cost to them.
