By Lindsay Craven

Promising “big city excitement and small town charm,” the Yadkin Cultural Arts Center and Willingham Theater offers Forsyth residents a quality venue for live entertainment at just a 20-minute drive up the road and without the high dollar ticket prices of larger venues.

The theater’s Winter/Spring 2016 series continues to provide an eclectic mix of live music, theatre, dance and more. With 193 seats, every performance promises to provide an intimate and unique experience for every ticket holder.

The Season

The season gets an early teaser with a first-time mountain music series aptly named Songs of the Mountain. This new music series will begin on January 16th with The Church Sisters and special guests South Carolina Broadcasters. On January 23rd, Lauralyn Dossett will share the stage with special guests Zoe & Cloyd, former members of Red June. The Harris Brothers will end the series on January 30th with special guests None of the Above. Tickets for individual shows are $20, or you can see all three shows for $50.

On February 26th, the Willingham Theater will take on Hollywood with a production of Completely Hollywood. Giving Hollywood more than just a nip and a tuck, this performance will cut through the celluloid to condense the 186 greatest films in Hollywood history into a complete compilation of classic cinematic clichés. Tickets are $25.

An Oscars Night Gala will take place on February 27th, which includes a cocktail reception, dinner, wine and a special performance of Completely Hollywood with many other surprises. Tickets are $75 and are all-inclusive.

In March, the Willingham Theater will venture into Latin music with a performance by West End Mambo on March 19th. This Piedmont-based band is comprised of nine musicians from North, South and Central America as well as the Caribbean, and they perform a fiery mix of classic salsa. Tickets are $20.

The Willingham Theater always has its finger on the pulse of the latest and greatest in bluegrass, folk and Americana music. This season is no different as The Steel Wheels take the stage on April 2nd. Based in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, this dynamic four-piece string band marries old-time musical traditions with its own innovative sound and lifestyle, generating a truly magnetic revival. Tickets are $25.

Later in the spring, the theater will team up with Theatre Alliance of Winston-Salem to present the Broadway hit Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story. This jukebox musical is based on the life and career of early rock and roller Buddy Holly and features classic songs like “That’ll be the Day,” ‘”Peggy Sue” and “La Bamba.” Tickets are $20.

A patriotic performance will wrap up this phenomenal season with The Stars and Stripes Show starring Letters From Home On June 11th and 12th. Dynamic duo Erinn Diaz and Serah Haley will transport you on a musical journey where memories last a lifetime in honor of Flag Day. Tickets are $20.
