Always attune to progressive ways to increase the health and wellbeing of others, Your Pilates Place (YPP) owner Laura Shelton and staff have expanded their class offerings and wellness services again.
Lymphatic Enhancement Therapy
In addition to Egoscue, structural alignment and body integration wellness services, YPP now offers F.D.A. approved lymphatic enhancement treatments. “I often hear clients say they ‘just don’t feel like exercising,’ usually due to chronic pain or inflammatory conditions,” explained Laura. To address this, she and her staff have been trained and certified in the use of lymphatic enhancement technology and have teamed up with Dr. Lari Young, M.D., M. S. at Thrive Integrative Health to help detox chronic conditions and ‘reset’ congested lymphatic systems so clients feel better, heal faster, and have more energy.
YPP offers the only certified lymphatic enhancement treatments in the Piedmont Triad. The service has been so popular with her clients, and those referred by Dr. Young, that YPP has added additional equipment and another treatment room to treat two clients at once.
The gentle, non-invasive procedure uses specialized equipment to send electrostatic current and harmonic vibrations to gently “wake up” congested lymph nodes so they can once again detox the body, drain fluid and deliver antibodies throughout the body. This process helps chronic and inflammatory conditions heal more quickly.
Laura finds it amazing that when administering a treatment, she can actually see the excess fluid moving off the afflicted areas.
Lymphatic Cleansing aids those with:
- Chronic pain, headaches
- IBS & digestive disorders such as Crohn’s & Graves’ disease
- Fibrous tissue/scar tissue
- Inflammation & immune deficiencies
- Lyme disease
- Mastectomy recovery
- Mold toxins
- Sports injurie
The treatments also aid in:
- Cellulite reduction
- Scar reduction
- Stress relief
- Weight loss
Always up for a new experience, I decided to give it a try. On the day of my first session, I would otherwise have been a little anxious, but I had been in owner Laura Shelton’s well-trained hands before, as she led me in Pilates classes, helped me overcome debilitating migraines through Structural Integration sessions, and posture alignment through Egoscue, so I was more curious than intimidated.
The treatment room is set with dim lights and soft music, and it felt just like a massage therapy environment as I lay on the heated table. Laura switched on the lymphatic therapy equipment and tucked a disc from the equipment in my armpit while she stroked me with little light saber-like wands that lit up with violet “lightning” as they touched my skin. The session did not hurt in the least and I only sometimes felt the slightest hum in my skin as the wands conducted soft harmonic, sonic and L.E.D. lights through the tissue. The wands give off a light scent of ozone in the air.
After my second session on a slightly higher frequency, I was amazed at the noticeable difference in my decreased double chin. Other tissue that had been knotty for decades had smoothed. On a later visit, I had a pulled muscle that required the lymphatic “laser” that incorporates harmonics, infrared, infra-white and infra-blue to decrease inflammation. The next day, I felt like I had had a deep tissue massage, which was especially surprising since the laser never actually touched my skin.
Other noticeable changes included a flatter stomach and thighs, which is why many clients schedule visits prior to vacations, weddings and special events, and though I became very relaxed on the table, I felt a burst of energy immediately following my sessions. Experiencing it myself has made me a believer in the benefits of lymphatic enhancement treatment.
Four or five weekly sessions are recommended at first, to activate the lymphatic system and flush out toxins. After that, once-monthly visits are recommended as maintenance. YPP offers a 15% discount on a package of four sessions.
Another new YPP offering is Gyrotonics. Once called “Yoga for Dancers,” gyrokinesis is an exercise philosophy of specific movement patterns. “Most exercise methods are born out of injury or pain,” explained Laura. In this case, Gyrotonics was founded by swimmer, gymnast, and professional ballet dancer Juliu Horvath to help heal himself from an injury that devastated his dancing career. The exercise method utilizes special equipment that is artful in itself, in sweeping graceful lines of wood and steel, to guide precision body movement patterns through a series of rotations, spirals and stretches that help lengthen the body and create space between the joints. Gyrotonics training sessions are private with the advancement option to a two-client session.
